Walking & Cycling Routes
There are a huge number of walking and cycling routes in the area - apps like Alltrails and Komoot document most of these. Some of our favourites are detailed below.
The munros of Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin are neighbours which are in easy reach of Mansewood and are a great day out for any keen walker. The access path can be found on the south side of Loch Earn, through Glen Vorlich, ascends the W face of the N ridge. The route to Ben Vorlich is a relatively easy route, but the ascent of Struc a’Chroin is a scramble.
Ben Lawers is approximatley a 30 minute drive away and provides a great opporunity to bag another munro. This is considered one of the easier munros as the main car park is already 400m above sea level! Expect fantastic views over Loch Tay. The drive takes you through the stunning village of Killin - take some time en route to check out the Falls of Dochart that flow through the village.
Ben A'an is aonther 30 minute drive away. Despite a lower peak of 461m, this hill has stnning 360 degree views over Loch Lomond National Park. Pair up with a visit to the beautiful vllage of Aberfoyle, or the small town of Callander.
Mansewood Country House is directly on National Cycling Route 7, which spans from Sunderland in the north east of England, all the way up to Inverness on the nort east coast of Scotland.
Loch Earn Wakeschool
Loch Earn Wakeschool is in walking distance of Mansewood, and is Scotlands leading wakeboarding school, guaranteed to get first timers up and riding, or get regular riders improving.
Other activities on offer include water skiing, inflatable ringo rides, paddleboarding, kayaking, and scenic boat tours.
The Clachan hotel is next door, and offers an ideal location to have sit with a coffee and watch the action on the waterfront.
Golf Courses Close to Lochearnhead
St Fillans Golf Club is situated a short drive away on the east side of Loch Earn. This parkland course was awarded the best 9-hole course in Scotland 2019-22.
Also, both Callander and Comrie Golf Clubs are close, making Lochearnhead the perfect place to stay for a weekend golf trip.
All courses welcome non-members, but it is reccommended to book in advance.
Rob Roys Grave and Creag an Tuirc
Balquidder is a 10 minute drive away (or walkable/cyclable on the Rob Roy Way). This beautiful village is home to the grave of Scotland's famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor. The proclamation of “MacGregor despite them” on the gravestone is a reference to the government restricting the clan and banning use of the MacGregor name.
From here take a walk to Creag an Tuirc - this translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'The Boar's Rock', and is the ancient rallying place of the rival Clan MacLaren. It is a superb viewpoint for the area.
While in the glen, take a look at the Mirrored Box, an interesting modern art installation next to Loch Voil. The renowned boutique hotel, Monachyle Mhor is nearby - they welcome walk in guests for afternoon tea.
Distillery Tours
Having been a cotton mill for 180 years, the facility that now houses Deanston was transformed in the 1960's, and has been distilling whisky using traditional methods ever since. Take a tour and tasting en route south, or combine with a visit to Stirling Castle.
Alternatives include Glenturret in Creiff (30 mins), who claim to be the oldest working distillery in Scotland, and Glengoyne (55 mins), unique in producing Highland single malt whisky matured in the Lowlands.
